In 2004, the Goddard Historical & Genealogical Society decided to sponsor a surname project, analyzing the Y chromosomes of Go**ard males. Under the direction of society member and biochemist Sue Kohlhepp, the project's goal is to determine DNA patterns specific to each known Goddard (and variants) lineage. To date the project has identified seven distinct genetic families.
